SOUTH AUSTRALIA-BAROSSA VALLEY
Enjoy with grilled steak with mushroom crust and potato smash.
French oak barriques.
Intense bright purple hue and an inkier royal red carpet colour closer to the center of the glass.
The aroma is an astonishing and lifted brace of blackberries, spice and even a perfume-like touch of blueberries. Pure fruit and spice that is not in any way overwhelmed by winemaking artifact. The wine has a concentration of aromas that come from not over-ripe fruits. The smells change quickly in the glass and are fascinating to follow, but the mouth beckons.
There is quite a remarkable entry to the palate. A seamless soft but structured shiraz, lots of blackberries again for sure but also a mid-palate dark chocolate spice that whooshes through the mouth that you want to slow it down and check it out. There is some cream and spice from the French Oak and an almost chalk like tannin structure but it's all about the pure fruit.
Heirloom Vineyards was conceived in vintage 2000, when a young winemaking student caughtthe eye of a silly old wine judge. A love story ensued inspired by two vows: To preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards and to champion the best clones of each variety planted in the most appropriate sites embracing the principals of organic and biodynamic farming. Seven long vintages of trial and error passed before Heirloom Vineyards could make a wine that was fine enough to pass on to future generations. That is this wine. This Heirloom Vineyards Shiraz was produced from our best Barossa Shiraz Vineyard whose clones and viticulture embody the very best in cutting edge but old school viticulture and winemaking. Hand tended vines, sorted bunch-by-bunch, naturally open fermented, basket pressed and stored in French oak barriques from bespoke coopers.
