Lifted aromas of cherries, ripe plums, cassis and a very light touch of leafiness - very typical of the region. Extended oak maturation has added a cedary edge to the bouquet which is very enticing.
This is a wine with tremendous cellaring potential. The palate is young right now - tightly structured with potential to open up into an outstanding aged wine. Rich varietal fruit characters of ripe blackcurrant, cherry and some plums. Well integrated oak provides depth and complexity, offering tightly grained tannins and cedar wood nuances. The flavour is long and lingering with a delightful fruit and oak tannin backbone.
With all of the ideal ingredients for the growing of premium fruit it is no wonder that Coonawarra is in a class of its own when it comes to Merlot. Coonawarra wines will always be among Australia's greatest wines, for their richness, intensity and great depth of flavour.
