SOUTH AUSTRALIA-BAROSSA VALLEY
A richly flavoured wine that would match a beef dish slow cooked in a red wine sauce.
Maturation oak hogs heads for 12 months.
Dark Red with purple tinges.
Lots of rich blackcurrant and plum fruit notes with hints of violets.
A wine of exceptional depth and flavour. The mouthfeel is velvety, smooth and rich. Lots of fruit flavour plums and berries with overlays of oak flavour. The tannins are fine adding complexity and integrate so well with the fruit to give a very approachable wine in its youth that has flavour and persistence.
In exceptional years, the Rohrlach Family, select the best parcels of fruit to be made into a super-premium wine and released under this, their "Family Reserve" label. The criteria for selection is simple. The wine must be produced from intensely flavoured grapes, given the best possible oak maturation, and meet the gold medal standards that the Family has set for themselves. Merlot grapes grown on 60 year old vines were hand picked quite ripe for this outstanding Barossa Merlot. It was barrel fermented in new American oak and new French oak barrels for 18 months to give incredible varietal character and complexity of flavour.
