SOUTH AUSTRALIA-MCLAREN VALE
Cabernet Sauvignon 80%, Cabernet Franc 10% and Merlot 10%
Perfect for winter meals like Coq au Vin and Osso Bucco.
18 months in new and old French and American oak barrels
Deep red in colour with slight brick red hues.
Lifted aromas of blackcurrant, complex black fruits with hints of Satsuma plum. A touch of earthiness from the Cabernet and dried tobacco leaf with lifted berry fruit from teh Cabernet Franc and chocolate from the Merlot, all combined with toasty oak.
Great depth of complex spicy fruits and ripe plums. Hints of black cherry and chocolate follow through the palate. Refined savoury fruit flavours, very fine long and well balanced tannins add complexity and integrity to this multidimensional wine. The finish is flavoursome and lingering.
The 2012 vintage in McLaren Vale began with a heat wave in late January and early February. This affected veraison, slowing down or stoping colour development for more than a week. The Vasarelli vineyard is generally a later ripening one and as such achieved excellent quality fruit - smaller than average berry size and moderate yields gave berries of concentrated colour, fruit flavour and natural ripe tannins.
