Coopers Creek Limited Release Gisborne Malbec 2015
The fruit for this wine came from the Bell Family vineyard in Hexton, just on the outskirts of Gisborne city. This was the first crop off a block which was planted with a new clone of Malbec called the 'Dr Rod Clone' named after Dr Rod Bonfiglioli, an enthusiastic vinophile who helped transform NZ wine as we know it. Vintage 2015 was one of the best in recent history for red grapes in Gisborne and summer seemed to go on and on, allowing fabulous colour and flavour development. This is a real treat for red wine fans.
Awanui Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2015
This generous Chardonnay is from a single vineyard on Gimblett Road, a sub-region in Hawkes Bay that was once destined to be a quarry, but local growers and winemakers petitioned the authorities to change its designation. It is best-known for reds, but white grapes perform equally well on local soils as this stylish Chardonnay shows.
Cape Campbell Marlborough Pinot Gris 2016
An Awatere wine, and predominantly the super-cool Blind River, this is classic cool climate purity and brightness. Crops were heavy in Marlborough this year but a very favourable April weatherwise meant well-ripened fruit. The naturally low-cropping vines and dry conditions meant the Blind River benefitted even more with small, richly flavoured berries.
Esk Valley The Plains Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016
This is a full bodied Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, exhibiting ripe tropical fruit characters, intermingled with hints of herbs and citrus. The wine is rich, dry and full flavoured and its crisp acidity offers a wide range of food matching options.
