How do I know what the medals and star ratings mean?

There are many different wine shows and competitions held all over the world. Some have specific themes (like the International Aromatic Wine Competition), or a varietal/regional focus (like the Hawkes Bay A&P Show Wine Awards).

A wine show endorsement tells you that that particular wine reached a certain level of achievement at that show at that time.

Generally, to achieve a Bronze medal, the wine needs to attain between 15.5 and 16.9 points out of 20; for Silver it needs 17.0 to 18.4 points and for Gold it needs at least 18.5 points out of 20.

Keep in mind that a medal or award is given to a particular vintage of that wine and that over time a wine can change. It pays to note what year the competition was so you can see how current that award is.

We let you know the medals and endorsements that a wine has received because they’re a useful tool in helping to make informed wine selections. It’s important to note that not all wine producers enter competitions or shows so it’s also helpful to try a variety of wines to decide the styles you like best.

What is your 100% Tasting Guarantee?

Every wine we offer is judged using New Zealand Wine Show criteria – and each has received a medal-winning equivalent score from one of our expert Tasting Panel members. If they don’t rate it, we won’t sell it. But in the end, you’re the only judge who counts. If you don’t like a wine for any reason whatsoever, we will credit your account. It’s that simple. Give us a call or send an email and we’ll arrange the credit.

Can I have my own personal Wine Advisor to help me make decisions?

You can request your own personal Wine Advisor if you would like just one person to contact you with personalised service and offers. Every one of our Wine Advisors goes through extensive wine training covering the history of wine styles, regions and more. They learn all about our brands, and regularly taste new wines to keep up to date.

Am I obliged to buy from the New Zealand Wine Society every month? Does my first order start an automatic wine programme?

No – we will only ever send you the wine you’ve ordered. You are not obliged to purchase from any of our catalogues, emails or other offers and you will not be automatically enrolled onto any wine plan. It’s entirely up to you to buy what you want when you want. If you would like wine delivered on a regular basis, then a wine plan is a convenient option – have a look at the range of Wine Plans.

How can I see what I have ordered and the status of my delivery?

Once you log in to My Account you can click on Order Information to see your order number, status, order date, order total value and dispatch date. Visit My Account now.

I have signed up to a wine plan – how do I manage it?

It’s easy. Simply log in to My Account or call us on 0800 80 9463. You can change your wine case preference, skip a delivery, increase your number of wine cases and change your delivery address.

As soon as we dispatch your wine plan case (or cases) we’ll send you a confirmation email (if we have your email address on file) to let you know your wine is on its way, and how much you’ll be charged. Give us a call us on 0800 80 9463 and we can make sure that we’ve got your contact details correct.

The credit card we hold on file for you will be charged for your wine plan unless you get in touch to make other arrangements. You’ll be charged for your wine plan case (or cases) when the wine is dispatched. You have the option to split your payments over three months (including any applicable delivery charges).

How long does wine delivery take?

Delivery is 2-5 working days. In outlying areas, delivery is completed in the normal manner from your nearest NZ Couriers’ depot or agent. Visit the Wine Delivery page to calculate your delivery cost.

My wine was broken when it arrived – what do I do?

All wines are fully guaranteed against breakage or loss in transit. If something does arrive broken or doesn’t arrive at all, just give us a call on 0800 80 9463. We’ll pick up the case with the broken wine and replace it or credit your account for anything you order but don’t receive.

I have received a New Zealand Wine Society Gift Card or voucher. Where and how can I use it?

You can use your New Zealand Wine Society Gift Card or voucher here on this website or by contacting one of our Wine Advisors on 0800 80 9463. To redeem your card/voucher online, just select the wine you’d like to buy and enter the card/voucher number at checkout. Remember to click the ‘use’ button so that the amount of the card will be deducted from the total amount of the transaction.

Please note that Gift Cards and vouchers are not redeemable for cash and are subject to terms and conditions. There’s often a minimum order value stated on the Gift Card or voucher. Please check the terms and conditions printed on the back of your Gift Card/voucher.

How do I change my personal details or how I hear from you?

Just call 0800 80 9463 and a Wine Advisor can update your details and settings or you can change them online by logging in to My Account and clicking on Details.
