Tasting Notes

Region: Gisborne
Drink Until: New Zealand Gew rztraminer is always best drunk within two years of vintage.
Varieties: Gewurztraminer
Alcohol: 13.5%
Foods: Great with Asian inspired cuisine.
Oak: Nil
Colour: At bottling, the wine was very pale indeed. With time, some pale straw and green tints will appear, followed some time later by light gold highlights.
Nose: Wonderfully rich and intense. Lycee dominates the nose, but there are also background hints of Turkish delight and rose water.
Palate: The sweet fruit characters and low acid of this wine make it appear sweeter than it really is. This also gives the palate richness and length of flavour.

Background:

Our 2011 Limited Release Gewurztraminer is sourced from a single vineyard in Knights Road in Patutahi. The spring and summer of 20102011 was settled and warm in Gisborne which meant that harvest came early. Fermentation was conducted in tank with a specially selected yeast strain. Once dry, the finished wine was then held on gross lees for a period of time to facilitate extra flavour development. As always, we bottled our Limited Release Gew rztraminer while it was young and intense. Download as PDF
What New Zealand Wine Society customers have to say...
I never have buyer's remorse when I order from New Zealand Wine Society because the wine quality is terrific!

...thank you for the outstanding Fine Aged Reds 2011 selection of which I have so far tasted three. All are stunning in their own right and streets ahead of any other $22-$24 wines I have tried recently
