The South Island’s oldest Riesling vines at Kahurangi Estate were planted in Moutere by the region’s pioneers, Hermann and Anne Siefried. For many years they led the way with high quality aromatics, but the region’s Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have been very successful, and several wineries produce unoaked Chardonnay which shows the faith they have in the quality of their fruit. Some wineries offer wine certified either Bio-Gro or organic as well.
