Background:
Augustine Vineyards were established in 1917 by Dr Thomas Fiaschi, a man whose exploits in the Boer War were documented by Banjo Patterson. He was the Australian Surgeon General in World War 1. After the war he was the senior surgeon at Sydney Hospital. He was great advocate of wine for medicinal purposes and was considered by many to be the father of the Modern wine industry. He was the president of The Wine Merchants Association in NSW and held conferences on viticulture and wine production. Chardonnay plantings from his vineyards, Tizzana and Augustine later became the source for cuttings to establish many vineyards in Mudgee and The Hunter Valley. This wine is made with parcels of fruit grown on various vineyard sites across South Eastern Australia.
