Grenache

Best known as the base variety in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Grenache is a fruity and warm Spanish variety that does well in Australia. Old vineyards in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale produce the country’s best.

Its dusty black currant and blackberry characters are often blended with Shiraz, creating a softer red and it’s popular in “GSM”, a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre. On its own it is best enjoyed with something fleshy.
